Our bowlers set World Record
A group of Roxburgh Park bowlers are officially in the history books after smash- ing a world record last year. Six residents from Bridge- water Lake Estate set out to break the record of the long- est marathon playing indoor bowls, a 36-hour feat then held by Arnos Bowling Club in the UK.
The team bowled for 40 hours straight and broke the record. Now, almost nine months later, they have received an official certificate from Guinness World Records.
Convener Peter Harry said the team was “over the moon”. “Everyone was told by friends that ‘you’ll never do it’,” he said. “(But) it all worked out beautifully; it was a fantastic atmosphere.”
Mr Harry said one of the aims behind the record attempt was to prove the retirement village was not an “old people’s home”.
